Joseph Mallord William Turner (23 April 1775 - 19 December 1851), an English Romanticist landscape painter. Turner was a watercolourist and print-maker, who is considered today to have elevated landscapes to rival history paintings

decayed artists" and further left more than 19,000 watercolors, drawings, and oils to the British nation. The National Gallery and the Tate Gallery, London house most of these works
Subjects consisted of shipwrecks, fires, natural catastrophes, and natural phenomena such as sunlight, storm, rain, and fog. He was fascinated by the violent power of the sea. Turner was known to add humans to some of these scenes as counterparts to the savage grandeur of the natural world
