One day, Elmer Elevator finds a cat in the street who tells him about Wild Island and a baby dragon who lives there. Elmer embarks on an adventure to find the dragon, outwitting hungry tigers, lions, and crocodiles along the way.
This beautifully illustrated book was a runner-up for the 1949 Newbery Medal, and was listed as Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children.
