There are three sequences of poems in this little volume. The first and longest sequence is called Thunder Rolls Across the Sky. It began as a handful of courtship poems, written in response to a dream I had. The sequence took on a life of its own, and developed into much, much more-poems full of love and regret and pleasant daydreams and loneliness and passion. In short, a meditation on the nature of love.

At around the same time, I wrote The Old Wayfarer, a short sequence of melancholy epigrams. The mood here is very noirish.

The concluding sequence is called Poems in a Bad Mood-my tribute to Juvenal, Hogarth, and Swift. You'll need a stiff drink after reading this one.
