Puck is born into slavery until he is recruited into the black robes, an elite group of magicians who police the known universe, resolving planetary conflicts. His first assignment sees him pitted against a group of Shakespearean villains, who have been magically re-created by the gods. However, the gods' experimental study into the true nature of evil has unforeseen consequences and Puck finds himself at the beginning of a much larger conflict.
