Fairies (and mermaids) have become involved with humans for centuries. We are attracted by their beauty, their otherworld allure, and the benefits they can bring to us, but involvement with a supernatural can also risk unhappiness, loss and even death.This short book considers the history of human-fairy relationships as revealed in folklore and literature and looks at the potential joys and perils involved. Evidence is gathered from across the British Isles and attention is given to fairies' physical charms, their sexuality, the dangers they can pose and to marriage and children. Various ways of getting fairy partners are examined, which range from kidnapping to the use of magic spells.
