The authors provide a taxonomic assessment of all currently described Florida species and related genera from the Miocene through the Pleistocene, accompanied by an overview of the environmental conditions prevailing at the time of their existence as reflected in the geology of the era. The authors have relied on the taxonomic and geological works of the original authors to the extent possible, in many cases utilizing their own words. Two new species are introduced and a uniform format for presenting the Plio-Pleistocene species is utilized to facilitate comparisons and identification. Contains 125 high resolution color plates that offer additional help in identifying specimens.
